The children’s bedroom scheme was inspired by the charming illustrations found in story books by Racy Helps, Molly Brett, and Beatrix Potter. I wanted to recreate their enchanting world of woodland creatures into the room concept.

Many travelers bring home unique treasures from their travels: carved wood masks from Guatemala, a handmade tea set from Japan, a painting from the Champs-Elysees. It is this free-spirited wanderlust that I wanted to capture and create in the dining room design scheme for the 2016 Shelter for Help in Emergency’s Design House.

The salon style living room was created as an intimate space for conversation, reading, and cocktail gatherings, and was inspired by the Blue Ridge Mountain views glimpsed through the two-story floor-to-ceiling windows. The room evokes a 1930’s French vibe with a salon wall display of landscape paintings by local artist Helen Hilliard. The scenic artwork draws the eye around the room and back outside to the surrounding lush Virginia countryside.

The inspiration for this child’s bedroom design sprung from the pages of classic children’s literature. I wanted to capture the enchanting images of classics such as The Wind in the Willows, Charlotte’s Web, and The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, and express the images from those pages though color, texture, space, and design.
